A New Rockwell PlantPAx Automation Solution Modernizes Dairy Plant

Challenge
The client was installing a large new production plant and needed a PLC/HMI standard that could be used by all equipment vendors supplying automation into the new plant. There were a series of challenges spanning across the project, ranging from network and programming to automation and electrical engineering.
Solution
The decision to use PlantPAx® Distributed Control System (DCS) from Rockwell Automation streamlined the programming activity for all suppliers. The solution featured:
- Programming tools and modules available at no additional cost from Rockwell Automation
- Consistent user interface for operators in all areas of the plant
- Consistent underlying code structure for programmers and maintenance personnel
- Development tools were provided by Rockwell Automation to decrease the cost of HMI/PLC program development
Results
The PlantPAx system improved the efficiency of the facility and allowed the plant to minimize unplanned downtime while reducing overall operational cost. The modern architecture future-proofed the plant, allowing it to adapt to new technologies and hardware.
